St. Werburgh’s Church, welcomed children of various ages, accompanying adults, made up of mums/dads/grandparents and leaders for the ‘Easter Cracked Open’ service held on Good Friday. The weather outside was wet and cold, but inside church there was a great atmosphere. A lady told us that as she approached the church door, there was a wonderful buzz of activity coming from inside. Refreshments were on offer. The adults took time to look at the Stations of the Cross paintings, which were placed around the church. Several parents helped to wash up. 6 crafts were available for the children to construct and decorate.
- A wind sock
- A foam cross
- An Easter story paper plate
- Brown bags to take their crafts home in
- Easter prayer cards which were displayed in church
- Cress seeds
After the crafting the children and adults sat in the pews and the leaders led the worship. The children were asked questions about Good Friday and Easter Day. They were told the story of ‘Jesus dies on the Cross’, we sang ‘When I think about the Cross. Our worship was brought to an end with everyone saying The Lord’s Prayer. The leaders gave out Easter eggs to all the children to bring the morning to a close. We would like to thank everyone who gave their time to make the morning a success. Our leaders came from 3 churches in our Benefice, Messy Church and the Mid Churnet Craft Club.
